Sandpipers Week 2: 11th Jan '21

Week beginning 11th January 2021
Welcome to week 2!

Thank you to everyone that has managed to upload photos into portfolios on Class Dojo. If there is anything that I can do to further support you, please do not be afraid to message me, I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can, but if I am working in school this may take a bit longer.

Please continue to use Joe Wicks for exercise on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 9.00 am on YouTube.

It is great to see that Mathletics and Numbots are being used. If log ins have been lost, please message me.

I have put some additional resources on our Bespoke Page to support learning.
PE - Don't forget to join Joe Wicks an his exercise regime on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9.00 am live, or join in with the recorded session.
Daily Phonics

It is really important to keep practising! Please see the schedule for Ruth Miskins Read Write Inc daily lessons below.

Remember when reading books, if you come across a word that you are finding difficult, look for the "Special Friends", "Fred Talk" and then say the word.

If you are having problems writing down words, use "Fred Fingers" to help you spell.
Rapid Recall

Rapid Recall is a quick fire, timed activity that we do before our main maths lesson. It is so that children build up their speed in recalling their number facts.

English - Talk for Writing

This week we will be moving on to "Innovate" stage of the Talk for Writing process. Please have a look at the following presentations and complete the activities that are on them. There is no need to print anything out as the children can write down their responses on a piece of paper.

For English in school, when we are writing directly into books, we write the "long date", the day, the date and the month and the year. Please could you encourage the children to do this at home.

Just like this - Monday, 11th January 2021. By the Summer Term I would be encouraging the use of a ruler to underline the date. Excellent presentation of work, is very important.
Handwriting Practice

This week I would like you to practise writing the days of the week. Please be very careful to make the capital letter a tall letter, not the same size as the rest of the word, and that you sit the "y" on the line with the tail descending.
Maths - Addition and Subtraction

We continue our maths learning journey this week with Addition and Subtraction. So of the files will be a little different to last week. Today we have a word document as a worksheet, there is no need to print - just write the answers down in. Remember when we start our work with Maths we use the short date at the top of the page - like this -

Maths - Tuesday - please have a go at the following worksheet. The first page of sums is the easiest, but where possible I would like most of you to complete the second page of work.  It would be great if you could challenge yourself to do the third and I would hope that children that were in Hexagons and Pentagons would have a go at this.
Topic - Geography - Take a look at our next lesson in our learning on Kenya - Today we will be looking at the climate and weather of the country and comparing it to ours. There are three worksheets in the file. I would like most of you to do 2B, but if you fancy something a little easier look at 1B and if you want to challenge yourselves, go for 3B. Don't foroget to look at the Knowledge Organiser, it may help you. Have fun!
