Puffins Week 7: 22nd Feb '21

Welcome back Puffins! We hope you have had a well deserved break, and managed to get outside in the few sunny days we had!

Week 7- Beginning 22nd February 2021

As always, there is no expectation to complete all the activities for the week. . For the majority of the time in Puffins, children will often complete activities directly on to paper so we would like them to do the same at home. You do not need to print out the activities. Once activities are completed, please could you upload them to your online Dojo portfolio- we really love seeing the children's work and will be giving regular feedback.

We have started our live lessons on Microsoft Teams, and these are going well! It is great to see so many faces and have interaction with the children. Our live lesson times are as follows:

Monday and Wednesday- 9.50am and 2pm

Tuesday and Thursday- 9.40am, 11.40am and 2pm

Friday- 9.40am and 11.40am.

Invitations will be sent out on teams, please keep an eye on the Class Dojo page for the lessons covered.

Each day there will be an English, Maths and another lesson to compete. As well as this, please try to read as much as possible. There is a log in to Oxford Owl for free ebooks on the Class Dojo page, and one of my tasks for this week is to set us up with a log in for another reading resource.

New daily activities

We are using some different daily activities at the beginning of our English and Maths lessons, as well as a daily PE challenge.

In our Maths lessons we are introducing 'Fluent in 5' at the beginning of our PowerPoints. Each day there will be 4 questions for you to answer, try and do them in 5 minutes or less. You have learnt strategies to help you to answer these eg. bus stop method for division, so try and think back to what you have learnt to help you.

Following this, there is also a multiplication challenge for you to complete. We will be focusing on a different times table each week. Answer as many questions as you can in 5 minutes. Let us know how you get on!

In English, we will be having a short grammar task at the beginning of each lesson. This will involve finding different features in a sentence, and coming up with some of your own examples.

For PE we have decided to set a 7 day PE challenge, where completing a range of activities will earn you points! You do not have to complete them all, but we thought it might be a nice change. Joe Wicks is still available on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays if you would prefer.

Monday 22nd February

English- Spellings Year 4-

Have a look through the spellings for your year group and learn them in whatever way you learn best.

Maths- We have decided to have a break from fractions, and instead will be looking at geometry at the start of this half term. Today we are going to be looking at identifying different triangles and their properties. Work your way through the power point and have a go at as many of the activities as you can. The 'talking time' sections are examples for you to have a think about.

Science- This half term we are looking at 'Sound'. Join Mrs Kent for a live lesson, or work your way through the power point and complete the activity at the end.

Tuesday 23rd February

English- Today we will be completing our grammar lesson, and this week's focus is nouns. Have a look through the power point below.

Maths- Today we will be moving onto learning about different quadrilaterals. Work your way through the power point, and complete as many of the activities as you can.

Computing- This half term we are going to be looking at internet safety. There are two power points below and then a quiz to finish off.

Wednesday 24th February

English- Today I have set you a 'have a go/cold task' to complete. This will be your chance to write an adventure story, I have given you a story starter and a picture for inspiration. Our unit is on adventure stories this half term, and I would love to know what you already know about them! Please upload your work to Dojo for me to have a look at, as this will help me see what we might need to spend more time on over the next few weeks :)

Maths-

Today we will be looking at regular and irregular polygons. Take a look through the power point below and have a go at as many activities as you can.

French-

Thursday 25th February

English- Today we are going to be starting to look at our focus text for this half term. Take a look through the power point to see pictures from the book. Using these pictures, and your imagination, I would like you to write a prediction about what you think the book is about and what happens.

Maths- We are moving on to symmetry today, and lines of symmetry in 2D shapes. Work your way through the power point, completing the activities as you go.

Topic- Today I will be introducing our new Topic! I have kept it a secret so far, but have some clues for you to guess in today's lesson! If you are unable to join me online, please take a look at the power point below...no sneak peeks please!

Friday 26th February

English- Today we will be reading our new class text and forming opinions based on it. I am unable to upload the text here due to copywrite, but will be posting it on the class Dojo page on Friday morning.

Maths- Following on from yesterday's lesson, today we will be looking at creating symmetrical patterns using lines of symmetry in different directions. Take a look through the power point below, and have a go at the activities as you go.
