Puffins Week 2: 11th Jan '21

Puffin's Virtual Learning Area
Week 2 - Beginning 11th January
Crime & Punishment

We are already into our second week of lockdown however don't panic if you haven't completed all of last weeks activities as they will all still be available to you. Thank you to those of you who have shared work on dojo already. I really love seeing the children's work and I will be giving regular feedback.

In maths we will be following on from last week and moving on to written methods for long multiplication. This is a little tricky but don't worry as we will go through this step by step.  Keep using TT Rock Stars as this will be really useful when learning multiplication & division written methods.

English this week will be focusing on using our new vocabulary correctly of the words you researched last week and exploring our model text for our Talk for Writing unit which will be based on the story of 'The Highwayman'. As part of our guided reading, we will also be exploring the actual poem 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes looking at the 'old' vocabulary that used to be used at the time.

In our topic we will be looking into crimes and punishments of the Romans and creating our own storyboard of a typical Roman crime.  As part of our science topic, we will be looking at

As always, there is no expectation to complete all the activities for the week. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRINT MOST OF THE ACTIVITIES. For the majority of the time in Puffins, children will often complete activities directly on to paper so we would like them to do the same at home.  Once activities are completed, please could you upload them to your online Dojo portfolio.

Above all else, please make sure you are reading daily with your child. If you don't have access to a range of reading materials, we have a class login for Oxford Owl which offers a range of ebooks for all ages and levels. Please click on the link below and enter the password.

Obviously, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me on dojo and I will do my best to help you in anyway I can. Thank you for your support in these tricky times. It really is appreciated.

 Stay safe,

Mrs Fisher

Week Beginning 11th January
Monday 11th January 2021
Today we will be Multiplying 2 digit numbers by another 2 digit number. Go through each step on the PPT , making sure it is on a slide show format and then complete the questions at the end. You do not need to print the activities off as you can do them directly onto paper like you would do at school. Remember the method is similar to what we did last week, just with another 2 digit number. If you need any further guidance, follow this link and click on the video named ‘multiply 2 digits by 2 digits’.

Please click on the appropriate spellings for your year group to find this week's spellings. Please feel free to practise them in the way you learn best.
Topic: Science
For science this term we are looking at different materials and their properties.
For the first lesson please work your way through the power point, please view in slideshow. There is a sorting activity at the end. Please draw out a  Carroll diagram and sort the materials you have found into the correct box.
Tuesday 12th January 2021
Today we are continuing to practise multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits. Go through each step on the powerpoint and then choose which chilli challenge you would like to complete. You can complete this straight onto paper.
In this lesson we are going to be building on the new vocabulary that we looked at last week and making sure we use it in the correct way.
I have attached a passage with words missing. Please copy out the passage (this is a good opportunity to practise your handwriting) and fill in the missing words from the word bank.
For a challenge, once you have completed this, can you write a sentence using any of the words from last week's vocabulary list?
This week we are going to be investigating what crime and punishment was like in Roman times.

Follow the link to watch a BBC bitesize video on the topic.

Once you have watched it, I would like you to complete a storyboard for an episode of a Roman crime show. I have attached a template, but you can draw it out and present it in any way you like.
Wednesday 13th January 2021
Today we are going to be multiplying a 3 digit number by a 2 digit number. The method is very similar to what we did yesterday, just with bigger numbers. Go through the powerpoint in slide show format and answer the questions at the end. As always, there is no need to print anything, you can just complete the work on paper.

If you need any further explanation, follow this link for a video called ‘multiplying 3 digits by 2 digits’

Today we are going to take a look at our model text for this unit which is based on the narrative poem ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes.

Read the poem through a few times to get the feel for it, then I would like you to have a go at writing a paragraph summarising what the poem is about. Include the different characters and what is happening.
