Puffins Week 1: 4th Jan '21

Puffin's Virtual Learning Area
Spring 2021

Crime & Punishment

Sadly, as you will all be aware, we have gone into another lockdown. However, we are  prepared for every eventuality so each week your child's learning will be uploaded ready to be complete at home.

Our topic this half term is one of my favourites 'Crime and Punishment'. Please use the knowledge organiser to help support you with any topic work. Our science topic is 'Properties & Changes of Materials' and I have included an additional knowledge organiser to support you with your learning. As always, there is no expectation to complete all the activities for the week. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRINT MOST OF THE ACTIVITIES. For the majority of the time in Puffins, children will often complete activities directly on to paper so we would like them to do the same at home.  Once activities are completed, please could you upload them to your online Dojo portfolio.

Above all else, please make sure you are reading daily with your child. If you don't have access to a range of reading materials, we have a class login for Oxford Owl which offers a range of ebooks for all ages and levels. Please click on the link below and enter the password.

Obviously, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me on dojo and I will do my best to help you in anyway I can. Thank you for your support in these tricky times. It really is appreciated.

 Stay safe,

Mrs Fisher

Maths
Start the maths lesson with 10 minutes on TT Rock Stars.

For the next few weeks we will be focusing on written multiplication & division. We will start today off with a bit of a recap as it has been a while since you have done the method. Today we will be Multiplying 2 digits by 1. Go through each step on the PPT , making sure it is on a slide show format and then complete the appropriate chilli challenge for you. You do not need to print the activities off as you can do them directly onto paper like you would do at school.

English - Spelling Practise
Go through the PPT and practise the spelling pattern for your year group. You can complete the activity or find your own way of practising your spellings. The choice is yours!
Topic - History
Today is our first topic lesson and we will be exploring the broad trends of crime and punishment from the Romans to the 21st century. Read the information on the PPT. I know there is a lot of information but this is also helping your reading skills. Cut out the sorting cards or have a go at drawing the pictures which we would usually do in class. Can you match the crime to its time period, the way it was detected and how it was punished?

Maths
Start the maths lesson with 10 minutes on TT Rock Stars.

Today we will be Multiplying 3 digits by 1. Go through each step on the PPT , making sure it is on a slide show format and then complete the appropriate chilli challenge for you. You do not need to print the activities off as you can do them directly onto paper like you would do at school. Remember the method is exactly the same as yesterday, just bigger numbers!
English - Talk 4 Writing
Today is the first lesson of our new Talk 4 Writing unit. This half term we will be focusing on learning how to write a narrative poem which will be based on the famous poem 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes. This is your 'have a go' lesson where you try and write an example of a narrative poem so we can see what you remember. Don't worry if you find this tricky!
RE
This half term we will be learning about Judaism. This lesson is a recap on your previous learning. What can you remember about Judaism? Imagine you are Jewish and someone is interviewing you about your beliefs. Can you choose the correct answers from the Sentence Cards for each question? Be careful...some are there to try and trick you! If you want an extra challenge, have a go at the dominos!

In this lesson, we will be learning the meanings of our new vocabulary that we will be aiming to use in our writing. Fill in our new vocabulary sheet like we would in school or draw one out yourself and then find the meanings and match them using a dictionary (you can use a dictionary online too if you don't have one at home).
