We have made it to the final week of home learning! Mrs Kent and I are very excited to see you all next week!

We have some very exciting dates for you this week. On Thursday 4th March it is World Book Day and, although unfortunately we are not in school for this, we have some fun book related activities for you! In one of our live lessons on this day, we would like you to share a quick review of your favourite book. It would be great to know; what happens in the story, who the main characters are and why you like this book. On Friday it is St Pirans Day, so we will be having a look at the history behind the day and we are also inviting you to dress in gold, black and white to represent the Cornish tartan! New daily activities
We are using some different daily activities at the beginning of our English and Maths lessons, as well as a daily PE challenge.

In our Maths lessons we are introducing 'Fluent in 5' at the beginning of our PowerPoints. Each day there will be 4 questions for you to answer, try and do them in 5 minutes or less. You have learnt strategies to help you to answer these eg. bus stop method for division, so try and think back to what you have learnt to help you.
Following this, there is also a multiplication challenge for you to complete. We will be focusing on a different times table each week. Answer as many questions as you can in 5 minutes. Let us know how you get on!

In English, we will be having a short grammar task at the beginning of each lesson. This will involve finding different features in a sentence, and coming up with some of your own examples.

For PE we have decided to set a 7 day PE challenge, where completing a range of activities will earn you points! You do not have to complete them all, but we thought it might be a nice change.  Joe Wicks is still available on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays if you would prefer.
Monday 1st March

English- This week's spellings are listed in the power point below. As always, learn them in whatever way you find works best for you.

Maths- Today we are looking at how 3D shapes are represented by nets. This will be a live lesson, the PowerPoint is below. Have a look at the examples and then have a go at the activities.

Science- Today in Science we are continuing our sound topic by looking at how different sounds are made. Mrs Kent will be delivering this as a live lesson at 2pm if you are able to join her.

Tuesday 2nd March
English- Today we will be looking at adjectives and how they can be used in sentences. Work your way through the PowerPoint and complete the activity.

Maths- Today we are moving on from shape and looking at coordinates. In today's lesson we will be looking at plotting and reading points on a grid. Follow the examples on the PowerPoint and then have a go at the activities. You do not have to complete all of the activities, just as many as you are comfortable with.

Computing- we are continuing to look at esafety this week. Have a look at the resources below.
Wednesday 3rd March

English- In today's lesson we are going to be completing a 'never heard the word' task from our focus text Firebird. Have a look at the words listed, mark whether you have heard the word before. Then, if you know the definition write it in the space provided. If you do not know the meaning of the word- this is your chance to find out! Use a dictionary or the internet to help you. I have attached a copy of the model text to Friday's resources if you would like to refer to the words in there.

Maths- We are continuing to look at plotting coordinates and following directions on a grid. Follow the PowerPoint and complete the activities.

French- Due to the positive feedback from the French lessons, I would like you to complete the next lesson in the unit on Oak Academy describing clothes with colour and size.

Thursday 4th March

WORLD BOOK DAY!

Although it will be a bit different to previous years, we are still going to be able to celebrate! There are lots of great World Book Day activities on https://www.worldbookday.com/2020/03/book-ideas-hub-brilliant-stay-at-home-ideas-free-resources/ . There is also a 'Masked Reader' competition going on at school, keep an eye on the school Class Dojo account!

English- Instead of following our unit, for today I would like you to create a book review of your favourite book. In our live lesson, I would love for you to be able to share your review to tell the rest of the class about it. I have attached a template in the resources below, but you can create your own!

Maths- Today we will be looking at how to move shapes and coordinates on a grid. Follow the examples on the PowerPoint and then have a go at the activities.

Topic- In today's lesson we are going to be looking at the physical features of Russia. Have a look at the PowerPoint to find out about some of Russia's physical features. Then, have a go at locating them on a map and describing one of the biomes found in Russia.
Friday 5th March
English- For our talk for writing unit this half term, we are going to be learning a shorter version of the book 'Firebird'. In today's lesson I would like you to begin to learn the model text. Draw a text map for the first 2 paragraphs of the story that I have highlighted from the model text. Try to keep it as simple as possible.

Maths- today we are going to be learning how to describe the movements of shapes and coordinates on a grid using the term translation. Follow the examples carefully, and have a go at the activities.

Live lesson Q & A
I thought it would be nice if we had our very last online lesson as a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about returning to school next week. If you do not feel confident in asking the questions live, please message me your questions on dojo and I will make sure I answer them for you anonymously during the live lesson. I will talk you through any changes that might have happened since you were last in school, and explain what will happen on the first few days back. I really hope as many of you can join us as possible.
