Week beginning 11th January
Hello,

On this page you will find the Heron's online learning. Once activities are completed, please could you ask your parents to upload them to your online Dojo portfolio. If you don't have access to a printer at home, you can simply view any activities set and use paper or an exercise book that you have at home to record your learning.

Additionally, please continue to read daily. If you are running out of materials at home, your parents may like to sign you up to the Oxford Reading Tree's free e-book library: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

The class login details are as follows:

Username: Herons-Mabe

Password: Herons123

Thank you in advance for your hard work. If you have any questions about anything, please don't hesitate to contact me via dojo,

Many thanks,
Mr Cruse
Instructions to help you upload your child's work to their dojo portfolio can be found below:
Below you will find your topic and science knowledge organisers. Feel free to refer to these to support you with your learning.
Maths - Rapid recall for the week

At the start of each maths lesson you will come to a slide that says 'Rapid Recall'. Pause here and use this sheet. Time yourself for 1 minute and answer as many questions as you can. Then use the multiplication grid to mark your own work. See if you can improve your score each day.
Monday 11th January
Maths - Work your way through the maths slides. Each slide begins with 'Rapid recall' (see above) and then a recap. For the recap, solve each question and then check your answer one by one as it is revealed.

If the slide is called 'Talking time', this is the learning part of the lesson. If it is called 'Activity' this is something for you to have a go at.  The answer will reveal itself once you have completed it so you are able to mark your own work. Complete these activities on paper or in an exercise book.
English - Read the story (Rain Player) below. There is some Mayan terminology in the story that we'll need to understand in order to make sense of certain parts. Can you complete some research to find out what these words mean (see sheet attached)? You may also find it helpful to look at the 'Author's Note' on the last slide, as some of the definitions to words are explained there.
Topic - Go through the slide learning about Maya gods. You then have a choice of templates to use for your fact file. Alternatively, simply create your own on a piece of paper.
Tuesday 12th January

English - Last week, we were looking at definitions to new vocabulary (attached below). Look through the' Rain Player' story. Can you find any of this vocabulary? If you can, please copy the sentence from the book so you can see how the author has used it in context. Please note, not all of the vocabulary on the list is included.
Many thanks to the publishers of this book for allowing us to use it for educational purposes only up until 20th June 2020.
Science - You will need the resources that I mentioned in Friday's dojo message for this activity.
Wednesday 13th January

Art - Last week, you learnt about Mayan masks and recorded some facts about them. This week, I would like you to make your own using household materials. You may choose to use card, cereal boxes, paper, papier mache or any other items that you find around the home. Think about whether you'd like it to be a battle mask used to intimidate the enemy; an event mask which were often brightly coloured and worn during important events such as weddings and ceremonies; or a death mask which were used to adorn the face of the dead (and often included mosaic patterns of green and blue).
